Audience feedback

After showing my video to multiple people, both inside and outside of my target audience, I got a wide range of feedback. The people within my target audience (16-25 year old males) all enjoyed the film, and most commented on how they enjoyed the ending of the film where the character's eyes open, before he aggressively attacks the camera. People older than the target audience didn't appreciate it as much, not understanding the link between the character ingesting random foods, and the hearts being destroyed, representing his "lives". When I showed it to women, again many of them didn't appreciate it, and most of them commented on how they found it "disgusting and immature" when the character drank from the dog's bowl etc.

Target Audience

The target audience for my film is 16-25 year old males. The reason I have chosen this range is because I believe that some of the humour would be better aimed at a younger audience, but at the same time they have to be mature enough to understand the serious aspects too. I have aimed it more towards men because some of the influences are typically more associated with men, e.g video games and horror.

Media Institutions

As my product is the opening scene to a feature length film, it would make sense for a film institution to examine it. The institute I would most want to examine my work would probably be the British Film Institute (BFI), which encourages the development of the arts of film, television and the moving image in the United Kingdom.

Lessons learnt

Since beginning the course, I feel that I've learnt a lot about creating films, and that my ability is infinitely better than it was at the start. Editing with proper film software, as opposed to the free, and often poor quality, programs that I'd usually use was a great experience, and allowed me access to tools I previously didn't have. I also learnt how to use the program "Garage Band", which allows you to use copyright-free samples to create your own songs which was great because I had to create my own original soundtrack for my production. Unfortunately, the original soundtrack I created wasn't very fitting with the theme of the movie, but a real media expert called Oscar Stringer came to evaluate my work, and gave me ideas to design a new, more appropriate soundtrack.
